An introduction to the Restoration Movement and the Restoration Industry. Livelihoods, careers and job opportunities.
This workshop will go into more detail including restoration tools, techniques, timing, etc. The workshop will weave together a blend of permaculture, restoration ecology, ethno-ecology, forestry, agroforestry, myco-remediation, erosion control, bioengineering and horticulture, among other disciplines. We will look at how to apply earth repair to urban areas, farmland, forests, shrub steppes and other Northwest ecosystems. Seed collecting, earthworks, swales, nurseries, native plants, desired non-native plants, plant establishment, hoedads, live staking, sprigging, invasive plant medicine and much else will be on the menu.
Michael Pilarski started Friends of the Trees Society in 1978 with the goal of doubling the world’s forest
cover. Michael has been studying earth repair ever since and has studied thousands of restoration success stories. His hands-on experience includes agriculture, permaculture, agroforestry, medicinal herb growing, wildcrafting, horticulture, orcharding, seed collection, nursery sales, and tree planting. He is a writer, educator and gathering organizer. This is the first time this workshop is being offered and is a synopsis of his findings from 38 years of studying earth repair.
